Day 211: Apple TV

The hubs bought me a new toy to help with my sleeping woes. I sleep pretty well once I fall asleep but I can have trouble getting there. Normally to curb this I put on a movie (refer to TV in the bedroom post on Day 164). This results in me playing the same movie night after night and the hubs waking up at 2 am to turn off that DVD menu music that just repeats over and over. Him getting up usually wakes me up and I put the movie on again. It’s a vicious cycle.

Apple TV will let me play Netflix or any TV show or movie in my iTunes library on the bedroom TV creating both variety and silence upon completion. I’ve already spent half an hour on YouTube. This kind of defeats the purpose but its fun. Now for Netflix and sleep.

Day 210: Training

The Chicago Arthritis Walk is coming up in a little under a month and I need a little training to make sure I can walk the full three miles. Our European adventure helped as we were walking all the time, but I still don’t think I can just go out one day and walk three miles.

So the hubs and Elphie are helping me train. Tonight we took a 1.6 mile (I know this because I use Map My Walk, a great app for tracking many types of exercise) family walk around our neighborhood. I’m pretty sure today was the warmest day of the year so far, and the sun does not set until after 7pm. Needless to say it was so pleasant and beautiful.

Our plan is to take three walks per week with a minimum distance of 1.5 miles, increasing the length up to 3 miles. I’d like to do at least two three-mile walks before the race. I think this is definitely possible and will make me feel more confident going in to a walk with a lot of family and friends. I would like to be able to just enjoy their company and feel good about raising money for this important cause as opposed to worrying about whether I can walk three miles or not.

Day 209: Married Sunday

The hubs and I have had a house guest, a playwright working on a play with the theater, for the past four days. When I ran into him today, he asked me what I’d been up to that day. When I told him, he smiled and said, “Married Sunday huh? Sounds great.” And it was! Here’s how it went down:

Two open houses followed by kill-time shopping at Gap, Loft and Jos A Bank followed by another open house (with cookies), a stop at Trader Joes and quiet reading time.

It was a nice way to spend a what-is-starting-to-look-like Spring day. Married Life!

Day 208: Ikea Part 2

My sister and her husband needed an impromptu trip to Ikea to look for stuff for their baby girl’s nursery. So the hubs and I met them at the Bolingbrook Ikea to help with the hunt for a double wide dresser that was actually white and not off-white acrylic. (No luck). Then we enjoyed some Portillos or, as I like to call it, Chicago French Fry Heaven. Oh and I got to see the baby bump for the first time!
