Day 170: I’m in a good mood…

As I walked home from the bus stop, yes I took the bus today, I had this running monologue in my head. “I’m in a good mood because…” There’s a lot of good in my life right now, so I’ve got a list going:

I’m in a good mood because I slept in a little bit.

I’m in a good mood because I took the bus.

I’m in a good mood because I finally feel confident in my new job.

I’m in a good mood because it was still light out at 7pm.

I’m in a good mood because I met that baby.

I’m in a good mood because our trip is coming up so soon.

I’m in a good mood because the hubs had warm dinner waiting for me when I got home.

I’m in a good mood because summer is coming.

I’m in a good mood because I have great people in my life.

I’m in a good mood because I’m in a good mood!

Day 168: New Family

Midday today, I got the text that our friends’ son was coming home! They have been going through the adoption process for a while now and have been “live” (available for matches) for about a year. They’ve had some challenging times throughout, but seeing this new family tonight, I am convinced it was all worth it for the little man.

Here’s a list of all the fun things I did in the two hours the hubs and I were there:

1. met the boy
2. heard about our friends bringing the boy home
3. ate takeout around a kitchen island
4. toasted the boy’s health
5. talked about baby stuff
6. rocked the boy to sleep and then held him while he slept
7. saw my friends in an amazing new light as loving, happy dads

They were all fun, but number 7 was probably best. Number 6 was a very close second though.

Day 153: Book Club Part Two

Today we finally had a book club meeting to discuss books! We had a small scheduling issue so we ended up discussing two books today, The Night Circus and Tell the Wolves I’m Home.

Most of the group liked and had criticism for both books. Personally I was drawn in much more by Wolves. Without giving too much away, I loved the major relationship that developed throughout the book as well as the perspective of the young narrator. The best thing about it though was the discussion. Each person’s point of view brought out something new for me-obviously the point of having a book club. It’s working!

Because of more scheduling issues, we are skipping March and discussing two more in April-Round House and The Swerve. I’ve found my reading for our European getaway!

Day 152: Validation

The hubs and I visited his parents in the suburbs of Chicago today. After discussing the “go whenever and wherever you want” attitude towards traffic in India, we watched a few YouTube videos of it (that I highly recommend). Then they wanted to share something else with us, a short film called Validation. The general message is closely related to the efforts of this blog. Yet I also had a giggle about it as someone who used to validate parking for people at a theater. This is for all my old coworkers.

Day 144: Intense, Chess

As I mentioned in a previous post, the hubs has been trying to challenge me to a game of chess. Here is my knowledge of chess: I know how the pieces move. I have maybe played twice. The hubs, however, has had this amazing chess set, that he brought back from a trip to India in his teens (it is made from the same marble as the Taj Mahal), on display ever since I’ve known him. Leading me to believe that he could be some kind of chess shark.

We sat on pillows on the floor–it only seemed appropriate–and proceeded to play a “pretty good” game of chess. I held my own defensively against his almost unending attacks. He probably had three times as many “checks” as I did before he beat me. It was definitely fun though. And required more brain power than the other games I usually play. Thanks, hubs, for insisting we do this!
