Day 97: Rearranging Things

As I mentioned earlier, today did not begin well. The hubs and I were meant to go to Washington, DC to ring in the New Year with friends. When I woke up this morning, I was so nauseous, sore and tired that I could not move without feeling like I was going to be ill. I was barely able to get out of bed let alone go to the airport and get on a plane. So the hubs made all the calls to get us out of our trip.

I wrote a couple of days ago that I’ve been going too much, and I think this was still the issue today. With a disease like RA, fatigue can be just as much of an obstacle as joint pain or the threat of infection. I’m finally at a place where medication really seems to be working and I do my best to protect against infections. Unfortunately, fatigue is getting the best of me now. However, because we are no longer traveling and also not working, the hubs and I can now spend these next couple days relaxing.

After sleeping for the first half of the day, I made my way to the couch in time for the very end of the Bears game. Even though the rest of the afternoon was spent on the couch, I knew I had to do something fun to save the day. The hubs and I had been talking for sometime about rearranging our living room after we acquired a few much needed furniture pieces.

So, with minimal effort on my part, Christmas decor came down, an old rug was removed and all the furniture except our large couch found a new home. Much to our delight, our small living room now feels brand new and much bigger!

Day 93: Coming Home

The hubs and I drove back from our holiday travels today. We had great visits with both his family and mine but it always feels like it isn’t long enough. Even so, when I got home (because I went straight from relaxing time with family to stressful day at work) I was SO glad to be here.

I came in like a storm, hurtling coats and shoes in crazy directions, headed right for the lovely meal the hubs spent the afternoon cooking (turkey meatloaf with mushroom, zucchini and red pepper mixed in and a side of roasted brussel sprouts), inhaled it and proceeded to get ready for bed at 8:30pm. I plan to spend the rest of the night lounging on our cozy sectional cuddled in my new furry blanket watching Project Runway Allstars with Elphie. Man, it’s good to be home.

Day 90: All I Need is Love

I like pretty much all Christmas music, but, let’s face it, much of it is very slow and/or sleepy. Today, I played dj for the hubs by choosing only upbeat holiday tunes to keep him pumped on the drive to Iowa. Selections featured Demi Lovato, Rascal Flatts and Glee. However, my favorite song this year is All I Need is Love by Cee Lo Green featuring the one and only Muppets! It literally brightened my day (which doesn’t even seem possible considering I have spent the day eating, talking and playing cards with family). I’ve listened to it three times today and each time couldn’t help but dance, even in the car. Especially in the car.

And by dance, I mean move crazily to the music. It is totally freeing as long as I do it alone or with the hubs or my sister (who also witnessed it today). It’s totally void of any self consciousness I might have about my body or abilities when dancing in front of people. So please listen to this song (or really any song that you love) and go nuts.

Day 88: Merry Married Christmas

After a lovely dinner at Brasserie 54, the hubs and I gave each other our Christmas gifts. For the rest of this holiday, I plan to find something small and fun to write about instead of the obvious, “we opened presents!” But since it is our first married Christmas, I’m going to bask for a moment in glow of opening presents, eating cookies and celebrating the first of many lovely holidays together.
