Day 206: Interviews

I’m hiring someone! It’s not my first time hiring interns, or as we call them, apprentices (due to the high level of responsibility they take on while in this educational position). It’s also not my first time hiring an apprentice for this company, but today is the first time I’ve had two hours of interviews (4 half hour introductory ones) in a row.

It requires stamina and the ability to hit the reset button for each person. I really enjoyed talking to most people, hearing about their background and goals. Some, like me, have worked in many areas of theater and are still finding their way while others are extremely focused on one aspect of theater. I understand and respect both, yet I look at it a little differently from the hiring perspective than, say, a mentor perspective. Except that for an educational position, I should be both, supervisor and mentor.

I’m looking forward to continuing to develop my skills as both and to bringing much-needed new member on to the team!

Day 205: Call Out

A couch conversation:

Me: I have to write two blog posts.
Hubs: You’ve been missing days and writing them later.
Me: I know I’ve been so busy!
Hubs: That was the whole point of doing the blog, so you would take time and devote it to fun!

Oh boy. I’ve been called out. And rightly so. Since we got back from the trip, I have been busy and I have pushed this blog lower on the priority list, and I’m not happy about it. This is both a promise to reinvigorate for the remainder of the Year of Fun and call out for ideas. 160 days left in my little experiment. I want to make them count!

(Disclaimer: I intend to have fun after the 160 days are up and I may still blog. But probably not every day).

Day 204: Reassurance

Tonight I went to a work event where the artistic team introduced the next show. It was a small but fun event for staff, board members and special VIPs. Hearing the director talk about the play reminded me of why I work in the theater. Coming home from our amazing anniversary trip and going right into an intense week at work totally focused on a major fundraising event (the gala) had me feeling a little blue about my job. I love the company but am not working in an artistic capacity most of the time. Yet hearing him speak about the play reminded me that everything I do raises money that this company needs to do the work I love. I may not have the direct artistic impact now that I would like to have, but I am still contributing and working hard for theater I believe in.

Day 203: #ootd

I first saw #ootd on Instagram a few months ago. (It stands for outfit of the day). At first, I thought it was a little too close to the “selfie” for me to feel comfortable participating. But then I had a discovery: I really like seeing what my friends wear, so I should probably also participate myself. I’ve done it a few times now, when I’ve felt particularly good about what I’m wearing. People liking the photos only boosted my self confidence.

Today I didn’t really #ootd my whole outfit, just my shoes because they were my main source of joy. (It was warm enough for Sperry’s without socks!) But here are a few examples of my #ootd.

Day 202: Veg Out

Continuing on my path of relaxation, I had the house to myself after swim class today and did absolutely nothing but watch dvr and look at Facebook. I’ve admitted to liking a lot of questionable tv shows and movies on this blog. Perhaps none worse than what I spent my time on today: The Kardashians. I know it’s awful but it’s a total zone out show for me. I put it on, marvel at the fashion and the drama, and forget about it the next day. It fills its purpose well.
