Day 61: Singalong

Just got home from the much anticipated Sound of Music Singalong! It really was everything I hoped it would be and more. This annual event at the Music Box Theater isn’t just people in a room singing along to a movie. It’s vocal warm-ups, costume parade, gift bag full of interactive items (flashcards, Edelweiss, poppers-for when the Captain and Maria kiss for the first time, etc.) and so much laughing and singing. For the holidays, they do a White Christmas Singalong and I will definitely be back.

Day 60: Breaking Dawn

I’m a sucker for a book series and a book series turned movie series, Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, The Hunger Games, etc. Currently, I’m reading Game of Thrones, also being made as a tv series. So perhaps it will come as no surprise that I am also a Twilight fan. I went through the books in about a week and have been secretly watching the movies. Recently, I’ve been re-watching them with my friend who was seeing them for the first time, and tonight, as a special treat, we went to see the final movie in the theatre together.

It was not the midnight showing with a bunch of tweens screaming when Jacob took his shirt off, but a mature audience of grown women, only a few of whom woo’d. We respectfully enjoyed our vampire/werewolf drama and appreciated the homage at the end of the movie. And as my friend and I left the theatre discussing how this was totally the best movie of the series, I realized we had just made public our inner twihards. And now I’m owning it here. Team Edward.

Day 59: Giving Thanks

On holidays like Thanksgiving and Christmas, it will be hard for me to choose one fun thing to write about on this blog. I love the holidays (if that isn’t clear enough already) and try to enjoy them in so many ways. Here is a list of things I will do today that will be tremendously fun:

  1. watch the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade
  2. bake pumpkin bars
  3. watch football
  4. eat, feast, tire, eat more
  5. hug family

Here are some of things I’m thankful for–family (momdadmeaganbrittreddykalapadma nathanphilphiljrpriankastevegertjohnIIjohnIIIjohnIV(!)juliejenniderekcedrictanneralisonalexangel billtristangrandma), kindness, Chicago, Wild Bunch, Elphaba, theatre, blog readers, cinnamon, instagram, holiday decorations, baking, music, reality television, scarves, West Elm, philanthropy, photobooths, celebrity, How I Met Your Mother, UET, ACT, CST, CU, NMH, DIY, New York Giants, Lake Michigan, dog parks, other people’s babies, my iPhone, wordpress, health and FUN. (not the band, the purpose of this blog. ok also the band).

Day 58: No bake

I don’t often use no bake dessert recipes, but a coworker brought this treat to our Fall party, and the result was so cute and delicious, I had to try it. I had fun making these adorable little acorns that took almost no time. They are part of my contribution (with pumpkin bars) to Thanksgiving tomorrow.

Acorns

1 package Nutter Butter Bites (smaller, circular version of the peanut shaped cookies)
1 package Hersey’s Kisses
chocolate chips, butterscotch chips, and/or peanut butter chips

Melt some chocolate (I melted about 3/4 cup of chocolate chips). Dip the flat end of a Hersey’s Kiss in to the chocolate. Dip a chip (I used chocolate and butterscotch, but you could also use peanut butter, white chocolate, dark chocolate, etc.) into the excess chocolate on the kiss. Stick the kiss to one side of the cookie and center the chip on the other. Voila! Delicious acorn.

Day 57: Disposable Camera Challenge Part 2

This morning included a small adventure called “Where can I get film developed?” The brand new Walgreens on the corner of Sheridan and Irving Park does not have that capability. BUT Broadway and Waveland does. I struck up a conversation with the woman working behind the counter, and she told me that I might be surprised to know that a lot of people still get film developed. She is busy most days with film. I did find that surprising. And then when she asked me if I wanted singles or doubles, I balked. The choice of sIngle or double prints is something that had totally left my brain (and I used to have a job running one of those photo machines). Why doubles of course!

The pictures were ready for pick up by the time I got off work today, so I got them and eagerly came home to take a look. It was better than I had expected. My coworkers and I managed to take some cute pictures even though we couldn’t double check how we looked! I think I was the worst at actually taking the pictures. A few of them even feature my thumb…

Now the irony of this is not lost on me, but below please find some pictures–that I had to take with my iPhone–of the best pictures in the bunch. I can’t wait to share these with the people in them. See, that’s why you get doubles.
