Day 209: Married Sunday

The hubs and I have had a house guest, a playwright working on a play with the theater, for the past four days. When I ran into him today, he asked me what I’d been up to that day. When I told him, he smiled and said, “Married Sunday huh? Sounds great.” And it was! Here’s how it went down:

Two open houses followed by kill-time shopping at Gap, Loft and Jos A Bank followed by another open house (with cookies), a stop at Trader Joes and quiet reading time.

It was a nice way to spend a what-is-starting-to-look-like Spring day. Married Life!

Day 205: Call Out

A couch conversation:

Me: I have to write two blog posts.
Hubs: You’ve been missing days and writing them later.
Me: I know I’ve been so busy!
Hubs: That was the whole point of doing the blog, so you would take time and devote it to fun!

Oh boy. I’ve been called out. And rightly so. Since we got back from the trip, I have been busy and I have pushed this blog lower on the priority list, and I’m not happy about it. This is both a promise to reinvigorate for the remainder of the Year of Fun and call out for ideas. 160 days left in my little experiment. I want to make them count!

(Disclaimer: I intend to have fun after the 160 days are up and I may still blog. But probably not every day).

Day 200: Gala

Day 200 feels like a milestone as far as numbers go. As a day, it was pretty epic.

I got to work at 10:30am and got home from work at 1:00am the next day (today). It was our annual gala. My job was to talk to as many people as possible-introduce myself, talk up the company, and generally meet board members and subscribers/donors. Aka be outgoing and on my feet for several hours (like its your wedding)!

The first two hours went well. I talked to a lot of people and had fun doing so. Then came the sit down dinner with a program and awards. The trouble started when I tried to get up from this two hour meal. Two hours standing followed by two hours sitting equaled painful stiff feet. I spent the rest of the night oscillating between trying to talk to more people and sitting. I felt conflicted between work duties and physical necessity.

Thankfully this only went on for about an hour before most of the guests left. Afterward I could help clean up and transport people and things back to the theater without forcing myself to keep standing. The hubs-who attended and won a very cool beer-oriented silent auction item-was also a huge help at the end of night, carrying things and generally making my job easier.

All in all it was a fun night but I’m thankful to be at home resting for the rest of today.

Catching Up Day 196, 197 and 198

So a couple days off due to lack of wifi, turned in to three and I’m still jet lagged. Here they are in brief…

Day 196 was a very lazy vacation day for me: I was feeling pretty tired and fatigued, enough that it really prevented me from wanting to do anything. The hubs went to the Tower of London without me, but when he came back, he showed me all of the pictures and told me everything he remembered from the tour.

Day 197 was the flight home which was fine, but not fun. Getting home at 3pm, picking up Elphie and doing exactly what I said we would (order in, watch dvr) were all so fun, I was asleep by 7pm.

Which brings me to today, Day 198, the first day back at work. Even though everyone around me seemed at their wits end over the annual gala coming up in two days, I felt strangely calm and prepared to take on all challenges thrown my way. It is possible that I was just delirious from a strange sleeping schedule but I like to think I came back with fresh eyes and handled what could have been an entirely anxiety filled day with calm attention.

Our trip was so special and fun, but I’m glad to be back home!
