Day 199: Walk it Off

Re-acclimating is hard. I’ve been falling asleep by 9pm and waking up at 5:30am. Today I worked late and now I can barely keep my eyes open. As someone who often has trouble sleeping, I suppose it’s not a terrible thing that I can get to sleep very easily, but it’s starting to get in the way of work and life.

To combat this today, I left my desk midday and took a walk. Now it was chilly and rainy and generally gross outside, but the fresh air and the physical movement cleared my mind enough to get me through the rest of my work day. (The chocolate chip pumpkin bar that I picked up from the vegan coffee shop probably also helped). I imagine that if the weather would have been nicer, the effect would have been stronger. I think I will make this part of my routine as much as I can. Hopefully Chicago weather complies with my wishes soon!

Catching Up Day 196, 197 and 198

So a couple days off due to lack of wifi, turned in to three and I’m still jet lagged. Here they are in brief…

Day 196 was a very lazy vacation day for me: I was feeling pretty tired and fatigued, enough that it really prevented me from wanting to do anything. The hubs went to the Tower of London without me, but when he came back, he showed me all of the pictures and told me everything he remembered from the tour.

Day 197 was the flight home which was fine, but not fun. Getting home at 3pm, picking up Elphie and doing exactly what I said we would (order in, watch dvr) were all so fun, I was asleep by 7pm.

Which brings me to today, Day 198, the first day back at work. Even though everyone around me seemed at their wits end over the annual gala coming up in two days, I felt strangely calm and prepared to take on all challenges thrown my way. It is possible that I was just delirious from a strange sleeping schedule but I like to think I came back with fresh eyes and handled what could have been an entirely anxiety filled day with calm attention.

Our trip was so special and fun, but I’m glad to be back home!

Day 194: Bike Man

I was having kind of a hard day today. We went to the Louvre, which is HUGE. And it has been over a week since my last Enbrel shot. I was never planning on taking the shot with me to Europe; it just didn’t seem worth it to have to go through airport security and travel to several different countries with a pre-filled syringe for a single shot. Today, I was feeling the effects of this and having a hard time with all the walking. Then, we stumbled upon some bike/rickshaw guys. We hired one of them to take us down the Champs Elysees to the Arc de Triomphe and over to the Eiffel Tower.

In the cozy two seater on the back of a bike, the hubs and I saw the sites of Paris; it would have taken us way too much time and pain to get to otherwise. Instead, we admired the shops, cowered from the crazy traffic and kissed under the Eiffel Tower without too much personal exertion. (As for the guy pedaling the bike, I cannot say. He was a trooper). It was romantic and silly and scary and restful all at the same time, and maybe, really, one of the best ways to see Paris!

Here is the best we could do at phone pictures on a moving (slowly) vehicle.

Day 182: Halfway

At day 182, I’m feeling proud, intimidated, sheepish and excited.

Proud to have gotten this far, to have consistently said, “yes I will continue this project” every time I have wanted to stop, and to have faced my challenges head on.

Intimidated by the next 183 days, by how many fun things I need to come up with, by what will happen on day 365.

Sheepish about how much I’ve revealed about myself and about those days when I did not reveal anything.

Excited about finishing such a large project. Other than relationships or school, I’m not sure I’ve spent this much effort or time on anything.

Thank you for taking this journey with me so far, for your fun ideas and, most of all, for your encouraging words. Here’s to the second half of the Year of Fun!

Day 180: Party Invite

The hubs and I had this idea to throw a party to raise money for the Chicago Arthritis Walk. I’m still a ways away from my goal of raising $3,000 ($1,000 for every mile I will walk) so we thought the most appropriate thing would be to have a flip cup tournament where teams pay an entrance fee to compete and all the money goes towards my arthritis walk team.

Four person teams with an $80 entrance fee. That’s a $20 donation per person for unlimited food/drink/flip cup fun. OR donate $10 and get a red solo cup for unlimited food/drink/flip cup watching.

I used pingg to make the invites and am now just waiting for rsvps to roll in. All are invited to our rooftop with a view of the Chicago skyline to flip some cup!

OR if you can’t make it to the party, consider walking with us or donating to the team page.
