Day 347: Nancy the Accountant

In my role at Emily Alt Photography, I am working with their amazing accountant Nancy who is teaching me how to use Quickbooks. When I say “amazing accountant,” I mean so, oh-my-gosh-darn, super dee duper, fantastic, fun, crazy smart amazing. She is also so encouraging and supportive of me in this new role. I can’t imagine what it would be like if she was just exasperated with everything I don’t know. (I should probably add patient to her amazing list). She makes me feels confident and competent. What a great teacher! What a great phone call we had today!

Day 338: New Friends?

The hubs and I met someone I used to work with and his gf at Fountainhead on Day 338. We had a great time as two couples trying each other out. It can be hard to go from coworkers to friends, but I think we managed that transition smoothly. I even promised them this would be the fun thing for today 🙂 We had a great time getting to know them better! I see a game night in our future.

P.S. Why is making friends as an adult so scary? Nothing about the dinner/drinks itself was scary, so why do I get all up in my head about it? Who doesn’t want more friends?!

P.P.S. Fountainhead is pretty cool and they have a stellar rooftop deck for the nice weather.

P.P.S.S. I don’t have anything to say here. I just wanted another ps.

Day 327: Hubs Bday

Today is the hubs’ birthday and all he wanted was a quiet dinner. Well, we spent the day doing more fantasy football research, playing instruments and shopping before the quiet dinner.

The gift: I got him a tabla which is an Indian drum set (2). He played it as a child and we had been talking about it recently. I wanted to remind him of his childhood and continue to encourage him to be creative and let loose once and a while 🙂

We had dinner at a highly Zagat rated sushi place on the north west side that underwhelmed us. But we picked the evening up with froyo, and-one of the best parts-dog froyo for Elphie purchased at a food truck in Andersonville. Bacon banana peanut butter fid-yo. Needless to say she loved it.

Oh and we also got new iPhones which is why these pictures are links…I hope they work.

Day 321: I Didn’t Miss the Visit

While I ran off to Iowa so as not to miss the birth of my niece, my friends Rachel and Dan still made their trip to Chicago to see us. Dan did also have to be here for work, so he was busy much of the weekend. This left Rachel and the hubs to get to know one another better. My bestest friend and my man chilling all weekend? Either lots of stories of me from college (oh no) or good bonding time. I think it was both. I mean they had their own inside jokes when I returned so it must have been good. Day 321 brought me back to town just in time to see them for a while.

We went to a great dinner at Farmhouse and then to see The Jungle Book at the Goodman where we ran into more friends visiting from out of town. Even though I only got to spend a little time with Rachel, we worked in some quality time to chat just the two of us. I am so happy she decided to come anyway! I mean, if she hadn’t I would have missed this:

Day 310: Mentor

Day 310, I spent a good amount of time at Dollop–it really is a great little coffee shop. My friend and mentor met me before she headed into work and had nothing but great advice and positive things to say. If you don’t have a mentor, I highly recommend it. Thanks M!
