Day 327: Hubs Bday

Today is the hubs’ birthday and all he wanted was a quiet dinner. Well, we spent the day doing more fantasy football research, playing instruments and shopping before the quiet dinner.

The gift: I got him a tabla which is an Indian drum set (2). He played it as a child and we had been talking about it recently. I wanted to remind him of his childhood and continue to encourage him to be creative and let loose once and a while 🙂

We had dinner at a highly Zagat rated sushi place on the north west side that underwhelmed us. But we picked the evening up with froyo, and-one of the best parts-dog froyo for Elphie purchased at a food truck in Andersonville. Bacon banana peanut butter fid-yo. Needless to say she loved it.

Day 326: Guilty Pleasure: Fantasy Football

After a full day of assessment at work as a methotrexate zombie, I came home wanting my usual guilty pleasures-sweets and bad tv. Then an idea, which had been brewing since a great conversation with our Wisconsin friend Andy, came to me; two-person fantasy football.

The hubs and I set up a league, went through all the rules (though apparently not thoroughly enough) and started doing research to prepare for a draft that night. Well, Yahoo cancelled our draft because you have to have at least four teams to play. For a while we were distraught, “none of our friends like football!” I put out a text and a Facebook post and while the response was certainly what you would expect from a bunch of theatre people, we got four interested parties to commit! Our league of two became a league of six! And we have an official draft on August 27, more time for me to study up and work on my spreadsheet.

Day 325: Vitamixup

Well. I did something very silly today. Necessary info: I take 1mg of folic acid every day because it helps reduce side effects of methotrexate. Folic acid is a small, round, yellow pill. Methotrexate is also a small, round, yellow pill.

Tonight, I go to take my methotrexate. I put five, small, round, yellow pills in my hand. I take them. I look at the pill bottle: folic acid. I just took 5 times my regular dose of folic acid and I already took one this morning. Immediate panic. Embarrassed call to local pharmacist. He tells me everything is fine and I can take my methotrexate as planned. I should probably just let my doc know because too much folic acid can reduce the effects of methotrexate. I take 5 other small, round, yellow pills-methotrexate this time-and immediately feel very silly. I have literally never done anything like this before. I am very careful (read anal) about my medication.

So this wasn’t necessarily fun but I’m glad I was able to laugh about it (as soon as I got the ok from the pharmacist).

Day 324: Monopoly

Ok. There aren’t that many days left in the Year. And while the summer has thrown my entire game off–byebye consistency–I am pledging to move forward with a post a day as well as catch up with the back log. So, if you get these in email, they might come a little out of order at times BUT they will be in order on the website. I know mostly for me it is important to do the fun but it doesn’t feel right to leave the written year incomplete.

So today. Tonight. The hubs and I made use of what we thought was originally an ill-advised app purchase. $6.99 for Monopoly on the iPad. And we both bought it. So we could play one group game with our friend Parvesh in Sun Valley. We thought we would probably never use it again until tonight when we needed some veg time. Two people, two iPads and $13.98 worth of app monopoly. It was actually super fun and interactive. Until I had to resign.

I discovered this–I did not know ABC did this and it could be helpful when I don’t have time to really read, or listen to as is more often the case, the news. The list for today isn’t super interesting but I can see it being better and more useful on other days.
