Day 216: Outdoor Cooking, Book Club

It’s finally beautiful in Chicago which means it is time to cook outdoors. Sunday for “book club” friends hosted everyone, grilled veggie, turkey and cow burgers, and showed off the newly decorated nursery. They even made a chocolate bourbon cake with strawberry frosting and a strawberry glaze!

All this to make up for the fact that book club is totally defunct. No one is reading the books. No one has any time. People are traveling and working and having children and expanding their businesses and going outside. And that is just fine, although I have enjoyed reading books that I might not otherwise have found. I may take on the rest of the reading list alone or maybe I’ll finally finish Game of Thrones…

Regardless of book club destruction, I had a lovely evening of grilled meats, summer salads and friends.

Day 213: T Shirts are Fun

Today I designed and ordered the T-shirts for Team Year of Fun for the Chicago Arthritis Walk!

At first, I was disheartened by the lack of mint colored shirts or fonts on all of the design-your-own T-shirt websites. When I finally found one that had a minty font, the shirts ended up being really expensive. Then my fellow walker (leader of Team Psoriatic Arth-Fight-This in New York) told me about ooshirts, a really affordable site.

I compromised a little on my color plan but ended having a lot of fun designing and ordering shirts for my team. I can’t wait for them to arrive!

Oh, and I ordered extras in case more people want to join the team…

Day 210: Training

The Chicago Arthritis Walk is coming up in a little under a month and I need a little training to make sure I can walk the full three miles. Our European adventure helped as we were walking all the time, but I still don’t think I can just go out one day and walk three miles.

So the hubs and Elphie are helping me train. Tonight we took a 1.6 mile (I know this because I use Map My Walk, a great app for tracking many types of exercise) family walk around our neighborhood. I’m pretty sure today was the warmest day of the year so far, and the sun does not set until after 7pm. Needless to say it was so pleasant and beautiful.

Our plan is to take three walks per week with a minimum distance of 1.5 miles, increasing the length up to 3 miles. I’d like to do at least two three-mile walks before the race. I think this is definitely possible and will make me feel more confident going in to a walk with a lot of family and friends. I would like to be able to just enjoy their company and feel good about raising money for this important cause as opposed to worrying about whether I can walk three miles or not.

Day 208: Ikea Part 2

My sister and her husband needed an impromptu trip to Ikea to look for stuff for their baby girl’s nursery. So the hubs and I met them at the Bolingbrook Ikea to help with the hunt for a double wide dresser that was actually white and not off-white acrylic. (No luck). Then we enjoyed some Portillos or, as I like to call it, Chicago French Fry Heaven. Oh and I got to see the baby bump for the first time!
