Honestly I haven’t tried to paint my finger nails in YEARS. I rarely ever clip them on my own let alone paint them. It is too hard to squeeze those tiny clippers or paint, especially with my right hand (it’s more damaged from RA and I’m left handed).
Then a few weekends ago, I painted my right hand in the middle of a party and had a friend do the left. Tonight, I clipped, filed and painted all of my finger nails. I was inspired by all the women I know who do it themselves (Jen, Allison, my grandma, just to name a few) instead of getting manis. I bought an Essie pink called Sunday Funday and made my attempt. It looks pretty good! Way better than I would have thought. Another thing I thought I couldn’t do but can. Fun!
Hmmmm….maybe this is fun? Or maybe this is gross?
I had a laser treatment on my toenails. For about five years, I’ve had an embarrassing toe fungus that causes yellowing and thickening of the nails. It stops me from wearing open-toed shoes and I don’t even think about getting a pedicure. Because of my RA and the medication I take that suppresses my immune system, I am both more suseptible to the fungus and unable to take the medication used to treat it.
A few months ago, I was deleting some of the many emails I get about “Sales” or “Specials” and paused to open a Living Social email. Had the subject line not mentioned toenail laser treatment, I never would have looked at it. For me this treatment had been prohibitively expensive, but the Living Social offer was something crazy like 80% off!
I thought the treatment might be a little scary but it was mostly just warm. Now most of my nails have cleared right up. I may need a second treatment for one toe, but at this point it will definitely be worth it to wear open-toed shoes with pride and get pedis with the girls.
This is the oldest post I never wrote. Day 212. April 24. APRIL TWENTY FOURTH?! It was a Wednesday. According to my calendar, I had my regular Wednesday work meetings. Nothing else.
Well I hope Barbara Streisand had a happy birthday!
I would hire someone to wash and style my hair every day. This is something I proclaimed as youngin’ and, at 29 years of age, I have not changed my tune.
The only issue with this, aside from needing a huge disposable income, is that hair washing stations at salons are NOT comfortable. They have always hurt my neck. It is not totally affected by the arthritis but it is definitely sensitive when it comes to sleeping and lying positions. Sometimes I think if they would just install some kind of padding around the neck area of those hard sinks, it would be totally fine. However, I had a woman wash my hair today who was just so committed to making my head clean. She scrubbed, rinsed and massaged her way in to my heart making the slight pain and stiffness in my neck now totally worth it.
