Day 248: Night Storm

Day 248 took the hubs and I to New Harmony, Indiana. Through a lightning storm that I found beautiful and the hubs found stressful. (He was driving).

We left Chicago a little later than we wanted, so we ended up in traffic. Then, I needed to stop at a coffee shop for wifi and send something out for work. Then, the directions led us on a route that was more direct, less miles, but not on the interstate. By the time we passed through an absolutely delightful and deserted town square, complete with bandstand, we found ourselves in a monumental storm worthy of the Back to the Future-esque clock tower in the same square.

I haven’t always liked storms, but I do now. I especially like them in the country where you can see them from miles away. I managed to get this picture as we drove through and around the storm.

Day 243: Pronto Pup

I can’t believe it is almost Labor Day and I am writing a post about Memorial Day weekend. The bookends of summer. I am glad I can say my summer was so full, I had no time to write but am sad about how far behind I am.

We were at the cottage in Grand Haven, MI celebrating the start of summer with friends and, on this day, I had my first pronto pup (a special corn dog). Remember this is before pescetarianism but I definitely wasn’t eating pork. However they’ve been a staple for others whenever we’ve been in GH and I was on vacation and our friends did bring a lot back to the cottage that would otherwise have gone to waste so I figured why not. And it was out of control. I haven’t had a hot dog in so long, I had forgotten about that taste, but nestled inside a crunchy house of corn. I mean come on. Woo.

I am sad I didn’t go to the stand myself to see the line and read the sign, “This is cholesterol COUNTRY. Health addicts please continue on and have a nice day”

But maybe I’ll make it down there next weekend for Labor Day.

Day 242: Dogs, Dogs All Kinds of Dogs. In the Bed.

Waking up at the Cottage is always a game of who else is up? Is it time to get up? Oh shoot, did I oversleep? At least I always think about that as a guest in someone else’s house. This time, we didn’t have any questions about whether people were up or not. Little Stella dog came and let us know that people were up and made herself at home in our bed with Elphie, who was only a little bit jealous.

Oh, and then this happened.

And this.

Day 230: “Real” Photo Album

Before the big anniversary trip, a friend sent me a photo album, the kind with plastic pages ready for printed photos. Her note said it was for photos from the trip and Year of Fun. Because “who does that anymore?”

Since we’ve been back, I’ve dumped all the photos from the trip into iPhoto, played a slideshow on two different TVs from my iPad and posted an album on Facebook. All things digital. Today I was able to really look through and pick the best and funniest. I had to be selective. This album does not have seemingly endless “memory” nor is it free to “share” the pictures. Because I was printing them, I had to pay special attention to the photos and selection. I could not over share if I wanted to. 52 photos to tell the story of the trip, not hundreds. It was challenging, refreshing and fun. Thanks R!
