Day 332: #marriage

Unplanned fun is the best, especially when it comes in the form of a surprise gift from the hubs. Actually I had a surprise for him too. We must have been thinking of each other at the exact same time–the post work errand run time–because the first thing he said when he came down to help me carry groceries up (yes, so sweet) was, “I got you a surprise.” And then we got to have that “Me too!” moment.

I got him a hoppy beer by Lagunitas he had never had called Hop Stoopid. The cashier at Trader Joes totally gave me props for my rad beer selection. And the hubs surprised me with this iPhone case that is PURPLE CHEVRON.

I mean, hello.

I love that we surprised each other (granted his was an actual gift and mine was technically groceries). I love that we were thinking of one another at the same time. I love that when I guessed it was a gift from the Apple Store (cuz I’m tricky like that), he wasn’t mad. And I love that we both loved what the other came home with. Love is all around, y’all.

Day 331: Office Work

The offices at work at very small. My department has a room that is probably 4’x5′ (ok realistically 6’x8′). This has two desks for 3-4 people (depending on how many apprentices there are). That’s right 20 (ok 48) square feet, two desks and four people. Oh and three doors that lead to other offices (and the basement). Oh and also no windows.

So it’s small. With very little wall space. And forget personal space. Anyway, today we flipped the desks! One has built in shelves attached above, the other does not. The one with built-ins ran along a regular wall while the one without ran along a brick wall. The idea is that we can put shelves up above the one without now that it runs along a regular wall. Cool!

As a result of this shift, our office received a good (necessary) clean up and clean out. I’m trying to keep it organized and clean as well as cozy. Maybe I’ll bring in a floor lamp…

Day 330: Shoes!

So my friend Sarah and I have a shared Pinterest board. Well, she does all the work, I just admire its usefulness. It is dedicated solely (ha solely) to comfortable shoes for our arthritic feet. Today I finally ordered a few pairs!

In recent months I have been more dedicated to shoes that keep me comfy all day and look stylish. (I have been living in these Merrell sandals–obviously casual but can dress up with certain summer dresses).

Before, the latter would have been the priority. Because I made this change in the summer, all of my good shoes are warm-weather friendly. Sadly, August is already halfway over and summer will soon be a memory (booooooo) so I need to find some fall friendly footwear. Here’s what I ordered:

Timberland Falmouth Ballerina Flat for work. I will wear with skinny ponte pants, a t-shirt and a blazer–classic I-work-in-the-theatre casual.

Clark’s Originals Desert Lace-Up Boot for casual fall days. I will pair with jeans (skinny or bootcut) and a cozy sweater for weekends full of football and apple cider.

P.S. I never order shoes online, so hopefully this isn’t a total sizing mess!

Day 329: Mid Morning

Ugh. Home sick all day. I woke up just feeling awful and, as is normally the case with RA, in pain. It’s hard to figure out if a flare up is causing the headache, congestion, sleepiness and mild fever or if it is the other way around. At this point, it is a pretty familiar feeling and I know that when it happens, I really need a day of rest.

So, after letting work know I would not be in and slurping a kale smoothie brought to me in bed by the hubs (he’s the best), I went back to sleep. For 3 hours. It was glorious. I spent the rest of the day doing light computer work with episodes of Giuliana and Bill (my original inspiration for the Year of Fun) on in the background.

The fun part, I’m not going to lie, was the half an hour when I wasn’t still asleep but I wasn’t quite awake yet either. I felt sick but I was also happy that I had slept. I knew that when I actually got up, I would need to accomplish things even though I was resting. I love sleeping in the early to mid morning when the sun is rising and the bedroom gets gradually lighter. Our building is peaceful and the dog is on her first nap and I know I still have a lot of day ahead of me but for now, I am in bed. Pretty great even when you feel ick.

Day 328: Sunday in the Park

How many times have I used this title??

As a supplement to the hubs’ birthday celebration, we gathered the friends we could in Winnemac Park with kids, dogs, snacks and sporting equipment for an afternoon of fun and relaxation. Lounging around on blankets, I won’t even tell you how many Sunday in the Park With George jokes there were. But it really was lovely to be able to casually enjoy the day with so many of our friends with kids who we don’t see as much. A lot of fun. Especially since I was holding different babies the whole time.
